For the past few weeks, rumors circulated around the winter world that snowboard icon Shaun White was adding another sport to his quickly diversifying portfolio: rally racing. Wednesday, he confirmed those rumors. Sort of…. At a Winter X Games news conference recently, White announced that he signed a multiyear deal with BFGoodrich Tires. Over the next few months, 30-second commercials featuring White learning to buckle a five-point harness, learning to drive stick (yes, for the first time) and practicing drifting and cornering on a private track at an abandoned airport in Orange County will be released. White and his brother, Jesse, also designed a Vermont SportsCar rally car that Shaun will train in later this year. “It’s got a gold lightning bolt and the number 86,” White says. “Because that’s the year I was born.”
